On Sim Birthdays

So, Dina and Nina are fraternal (sororital?) twins, yet they have different Zodiac signs. Fortunately, Scorpio and Sagittarius are consecutive (traditionally, though Ophiuchus completely screws that up) so you could explain this as them being born on the cusp. My original thought was that Nina was born before midnight November 23, and Dina was born some twenty minutes later on the 24th. I later realized that I was a day off, and technically Sagittarius starts on the 23rd, but since it's the cusp I figure Nina can still identify as a Scorpio if she wants to. I didn't want to change Dina's birthday because I looked up the metasymbology card for November 24th, and it said this:

This has been called the "Wish Card", and for all 9 of Hearts, there is an intimate connection between money and love. Money may come, or love may come, but the two never seem to work together for any length of time.

Of course, none of this is particularly important to the story, but that made me LOL. Fortune & Romance, indeed.

Ooh. Sims logic. You can drive yourself nuts trying to figure it out. At least it somewhat makes sense for Nina and Dina the way you've worked it out.

This is the way I think of sim twins. Sims time clearly works differently from out own. They go through college in 3-4 sim days for crying out loud! :D So when "twins" are born, it's probably just representative of kids being born at closer times to one another. After all, the occurence of twins also happens way too much in sims lives in comparison to real life. :D

So, yeah. That's the way I think of it at least, lol.

Yeah, it seems like Sim days can represent days, months, and years depending on what's going on.

Lol, that's so weird!

Wow that is odd. They're twins, but they're different signs? It happens, I'm sure, but goodness. You think that they would be a little more on key.

In any case, I like the sign for Dina it definitely fits her. :D

Well, at least this can sort of be handwaved as a cusp thing. Lola and Chloe must have been born four months apart according to their signs. At least the Pleasants, Larsons, and Cordials do have matching signs, but that just makes it weirder that so many of them are off.

Gosh, you really dig deep into the nonlogical simsworld! I'm actually quite impressed by what you manage to conclude. And it's also embarrassingly interesting, really shows how much a sims-geek you are if you find it intriguing or not. ^^

Sim zodiac signs have absolutely nothing to do with when they're born, though. They're directly tied to the personality points, so Nina and Dina's signs are different simply because their personalities are (very) different.

A bigger mystery is the pets' zodiac signs, where kittens or puppies born with the exact same personalities can end up having different zodiacs. Some kind of oversight when they coded the pets, probably (which really are just a different type of sim).

I find it easier to completely ignore the zodiac signs. ;)

Except that Dina is a Sagittarius with the points of a Libra, and Nina is a Scorpio with the points of a Virgo. If you type their points into CAS that's what their signs will set to, so for some reason the creators decided to mismatch them.

Odd. That could be due to the base game 'hoods being made before the game was finished. Perhaps they changed what personality points match up with which zodiac signs after creating the twins. I wonder if there's other mismatched premades like that... They could also have changed their personality points after setting the zodiac signs with whatever 'hood editing tools they've got. I don't think changing personality points or zodiac signs in SimPE affects the other.

It must have been the latter, because the TS2 personality/zodiac are the same as they were in TS1, and it's easy to mismatch them with SimPe or cheats. Also, personality and zodiac signs effect chemistry separately, which is really weird in Dina's case, because Sagi is repulsed by Libra, yet Sims are attracted to similar personalities. There are quite a few mismatched premades, according to the wiki.

Ah, I didn't even think of Sims 1, it's been so long since I played it that I forgot it even had zodiacs and personality points. :P

That is very strange. I wonder why they ended up mismatching several of them? I wonder if any of the premades that exist in TS1, like the Goths, are mismatched. Poor Dina must be a bit confused. Of course, chemistry wasn't introduced until Nightlife, so they probably didn't consider that part.

Yeah, it's such a weird thing to do. I wonder if the other mismatched signs have the chemistry problem? I only know with Dina because I was trying to figure out what to do with Michael, since there's a Libra, Leo, and Aries version of himself. (I finally just went with the original Libra, and still was able to get triple bolts through turn-ons)

Bella has consistently been a Cancer with the right points. Morty was originally a Taurus, but they changed him to a Cancer in TS2 while keeping the Taurus points. Cassandra was a Cancer who became a Virgo whilst keeping the same points. Alexander is also a Cancer. What the hell is up with the Goths and Cancer?

I think EA/Maxis operates with some kind of alien logic that we cannot possibly understand. While cleaning up the pre-made neighbourhoods, I came across quite a lot of 'what the hell' stuff. I suppose most of it was just mistakes (although I don't know HOW they managed to get certain things so incredibly wrong, for example the memories of Isabella and Patrizio Monty), but some things, like these zodiac signs, seems clearly intentional.

I'm still trying to figure out how Skip managed to impregnate Brandi post-mortem (or while she was already preggers with Beau?)

What's wrong with the Veronaville memories? I've never heard the specifics.

Hah. I just moved that memory a little bit. :P I'm also curious about the duplicates of Skip, Darleen Dreamer and Michael Bachelor (and Nervous Subject!). I mean, they're obviously discarded previous versions, just wondering why they were discarded, and not deleted properly.

The elder Montys' memories are just a mess, especially when it comes to their kids. If I recall correctly, they remember the birth order slightly differently, and various memories of the kids growing up or being taught things are missing or misplaced, but it's not consistent between the two of them. I could look it up, it's been a while since I looked at the originals.

Consort Capp also remembers Cordelia being the youngest, even though her being heiress and having teenaged children clearly point towards her being the oldest.

My whole story was inspired by the "Michael Bachelor macking on a teenage Dina even though she's supposed to be 20+ years younger than him" memory. Was that intentional, and if not, how does one make that mistake?

Mistake or not, I love your take on it. :)

Yeah, I have no idea. Perhaps they were drunk while working on the neighbourhoods. Or, more likely, it was all kind of rushed and/or changed several times while the game was still in development. There's all kinds of fun broken relationships in the 'hoods, too, probably from Maxis deleting sims and then overwriting the instanceID with a new character. Lucy Burb, for example, has all these broken relationship strings (only visible in SimPE) to various Goths, I think she's set as Mortimer's mother or grandmother or something.

Ah, the wiki lists the memories of Isabella Monty (not Patrizio for some reason). http://sims.wikia.com/wiki/Isabella_Monty

"Oddly Isabella has no memories of the birth of their children and even their growing up, the first memory she has of her children is "Claudio Monty got engaged" and she does not have any memory of Bianca, this was probably a mistake made by developers."
